6 answers

The chocolate industry and the florists took a private meeting with subject "How to earn more money one day a year".

After a long long time, and just like the friend said, the Hallmark company invented and said " I can help you with technology, I can sent cards with no cost".

And the HeadQuarters decided that the most foolish persons are those in love : They dont think much, they are fulled up with dreams and that's the target group they decide to fool with.

The last part was the name of the day.
Hallmark said: We can name it "Hallmark Day".
They didnt agree.
The Florists said "We can name it Flower Shower Day"
They didnt agree also.
The Chocolate Industry said "We can name it Choco Love Day"
The still couldnt agree.

They needed something off the record, something less marketing but not less catchy.

They decided to read something bout religions (cause they knew that this day would be mostly for the West) and they have found Mr. Valentine St.

And they agreed to name it "Valentines Day".

And then, everything was easy enough....

And the name of Love has been equaled with this .. Valentine.

*Well, that's a joke story, I dont actually know the real answer but i hope i made you smile !

It's always been my firm belief that just like the other man-made "holidays" (Mothers' Day, Fathers' Day, Grandparents' Day) this day was created because -

(a) In between New Year's and Good Friday/Easter, there is no real "holiday" to celebrate (unless of course you are Irish like me) and celebrate St. Patrick's Days.

and:

(b) The candy companies and the card companies are making a fortune.

I think that this day is also for a Saint.

Have a lovely rest of the day. Happy "Early" Valentine's Day.

Some ancient dude called Valentine accidentally (or not) shot his wife in the tuss with an arrow. He was so repentant that he spent the rest of the day sucking up to her in order to get his piece of fluff that night. That was the beginning of valentine's day
