How do I find out which CPU cooler can fit on it? I have a P4 processor.

It looks like a heatsink for keeping a computer chip cool.

You are better taking off the heatsink and putting on a combined heatsink and fan. good firms are zalman and arctic cooling and spire. You'll also need some thermal paste (arctic silver - best, in a syringe) and get some arctic cleaner as the stock heatsinks usually have a thermal pad which are a bummer to clean off the chip rather than paste. Copper heatsinks are usually better but they are heavier than aluminium and may damage the motherboard.

lol....thats a heatsink for the Northbridge, nothing to do with the CPU cooler.

Nothing to worry about!

Don't try to take it off either as the user above has suggested. It looks like it's secured with thermal glue, so if you do try to pull it off, the chip will probably come off the board, and then the board will be junk.

Excellent pic, you made me laugh. Thank you. If you are wanting to know more about the inside of your then get yourself a good hardware book first before opening anything up.

Its not pins, and is to cool the chipset.

heatsink, taps heat away from the chip beneath so it doesn't get fried. don't touch.
