It sounds like your computer has caught something called Adware.
This type of malware causes you to think that you're in great danger of your computer being damaged, and tries to force you to buy software to remove the problem. When in actual fact, the problem is the malware itself. A despicable marketing ploy being used by many companies promoting anti-spyware and anti-adware software.
Unfortunately you have no choice but to buy a package to remove the malware, but don't support these scumbags.
Go to www.download.com and type in "adware" or "spyware" into their search box. Read the ratings on the results, and make your decision from there. There will be free downloads available for most of the results, but they will have a lot of the functionality removed. In most cases this will mean that the software finds a bunch of malicious software on your computer, but won't allow you to remove it. Another shady trick, but when all is said and done, you really do need the extra protection.
As far as I know, SpyWare Doctor is one of the best packages available.
Also, may I suggest that you get a personal firewall for extra protection. I use Sygate Personal Firewall, and have found it to be excellent for stopping unwanted intrusions on my computer.
The only problem with a firewall is you have to know quite a lot about how computers communicate. The reason being that it will initially generate a warning for every tiny little piece of communication that your computer engages in. There is a lot of signalling between computers that you don't see, and it is not necessary to see it, but it's vital. A firewall won't let this happen until you tell it to.
If you have the time and patience to learn, then this is something you should definitely consider. But for now, get yourself an anti-spyware package.

Nah, thats spyware. Go to freewarefiles.com, downloads, com, microsoft.com or cnets website and download any of the tonnage of spyware removal. Even yahoo's & MSN's toolbar might stop that problem. If you connect to the internet without updating your Windows and installing antivirus software your easy prey. Look for Windows Defender, Adaware SE, or 1 of many free programs available. Now if you actually were dum enough to click these popups to see what happens now you might have deeply embedded spyware and backdoor viruses which require you to try a free antivirus from the same websites or even reloading your OS depending on how severely you corrupted your system with these entry level popups and spyware.

Print out these instructions specified below.. Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, or MBAM, from the following location and save it to your desktop: Once downloaded, close all programs and Windows on your computer, including this one. Double-click on the icon on your desktop named mbam-setup.exe. This will start the installation of MBAM onto your computer. When the installation begins, keep following the prompts in order to continue with the installation process. Do not make any changes to default settings and when the program has finished installing, make sure you leave both the Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware checked. Then click on the Finish button. MBAM will now automatically start and you will see a message stating that you should update the program before performing a scan. As MBAM will automatically update itself after the install, you can press the OK button to close that box and you will now be at the main program as shown below. On the Scanner tab, make sure the the Perform full scan option is selected and then click on the Scan button to start scanning your computer for Personal Antivirus related files. MBAM will now start scanning your computer for malware. This process can take quite a while, so we suggest you go and do something else and periodically check on the status of the scan. When MBAM is scanning it will look like the image below. When the scan is finished a message box will appear as shown in the image below. You should click on the OK button to close the message box and continue with the PersonalAntivirus removal process. You will now be back at the main Scanner screen. At this point you should click on the Show Results button. A screen displaying all the malware that the program found will be shown as seen in the image below. Please note that the infections found may be different than what is shown in the image. You should now click on the Remove Selected button to remove all the listed malware. MBAM will now delete all of the files and registry keys and add them to the programs quarantine. When removing the files, MBAM may require a reboot in order to remove some of them. If it displays a message stating that it needs to reboot, please allow it to do so. Once your computer has rebooted, and you are logged in, please continue with the rest of the steps. When MBAM has finished removing the malware, it will open the scan log and display it in Notepad. Review the log as desired, and then close the Notepad window. You can now exit the MBAM program.
