Turn this question round a bit and ask yourself: "When I am a customer of a store, utilities organisation, credit card company, bank... or similar, would I mind if my personal details were allowed to become public?"

We have to be able to trust these organistions to some extent or we would find our personal details in places where we would not wish to find them. It is bad enough that many organisations sell our names and addresses to other organisations (even though they claim to 'specially select' them) so they can hassle us.

Simple: it's the law! The Data Protection Act provides for confidentiality of customer information.

privacy laws ... not to mention some clients will get insanely ticked off if you tell others about them, even if it's nothing personal, just mentioning that you are a client could be bad for business. Money is a private personal matter, and most people dont share that info.
