I need help choosing an ending for my story?

I'm writing a short story and I've gotten to the climax part. I can't choose an ending! here's the plot: a man is in his house when a gang of guys breaks in, ready to kill him. What should the man do now? *I want to avoid an ending with too much violence or killing.*

Well there is always the classic "man convinces break-in guys they shoudl surrender because they are wasting their lives," but perosnally I would introduce a small child, no more than 6 years old. Then through some freak accident like the break-in guys were trying to hurt the man, but they hurt the child. Then since no one likes to see a small child in danger of death, the man simply walks out with the child. In silence after the accident. You could add more, but I would leave it at that. No follow up on what happens to the break-in gang or the child... Just the silence and the peaceful ourdoors...

Have you ever seen The Pink Panther films? Peter Sellers has this sidekick who always hides and then attacks him when his guard is down (it's for practice. and it's funny. One time he hides in the refrigerator.) If you want your story to end up like a comedy, you could do something like that - like it's all a game to keep in shape and on top of the main characters reflexes.

Realize that the more the burglars take, the more he collects from insurance, so he helps them gather his wife's belongings. After all, his wife is out cheating on him with some other guy (or girl), so it doesn't matter if she loses everything.
