Can I take a child back after I've adopted it?

Question

This is a serious question. I've recently adopted a small Cambodian boy - like Angelina Jolie's son Maddox - he's so sweet!! But my problem is this: Madonna has just adopted a small Malawian boy and well, I'm a much bigger fan of Madonna than I ever was of Angelina Jolie. But I don't want to have two kids around, can I take the Asian kid back and exchange it for an African kid? Or is that "not done"? I've only had the Cambodian kid for a few months - I'm sure he won't really mind. Also will I have to pay something extra? I dunno which is more expensive - Cambodian or Malawian? If Malawian is cheaper will I be able to claim money back?

aw Michael P !! - that 90-day return policy is a LOAD off my mind. I can understand totally how you ordered the wrong kid - I find it so hard to keep up with the trends these days! What's an influenceable fan to do? Thanks ;-)

Thanks Raven of the Wood - I'm actually crying with laughter too. I made up this question and stuck it in the parenting section the other day and the answers (from hormoned-up pregnant women - so u can imagine) cracked me up so much I had to post it again! In "pets" this time ;-)

I think they have a 90-day return policy, so you may just be able to exchange it now. Unfortunately, as far as I know, they do not give money back, and if the Malawian child is more expensive then you will have to compensate the extra price. We had a similar problem a few years back. We got confused between african and asian and accidentally ordered an asian kid when we wanted an african one.

Wow! I don't know if I dare say "now I've seen it all" or not. So instead, I'll just say, "surely you jest!" and hope that it actually is the case.

If you aren't being off the wall about this then I think perhaps you should strongly consider remaining childless forever, doesn't appear you are good parenting material...the child isn't an article of clothing and 'returning' him for a different child from a different country based on which 'star' you like? Hopefully the adoption folks would realize they made an error first time around and strike you from their list of suitable adoptives.

I was going to say something mean, but I think you've got enough of that.

I now understand that you were joking. I didn't at first until I read all the answers. This may have seemed funny at first to you, but it is not. If it was a joke, you should NOT have said "this is a serious question". Why would you say that if you didn't want everyone to think you were dead serious? I hate when people do that!

Adoption is not something to poke fun at. If you wanted this to be considered a joke, you could have asked it under Jokes & Riddles.

you are really in need of some serious psych help. adoption is for LIFE, whether it be a pet or a child. once youve done it you cant just take it back to a store and exchange it for one that is better or cooler. just because you are fans of your favorite stars that have adopted children from out of country dont mean that you can do the same damned thing. the adoption agency should have really looked at your history and done a psych eval before they let you have ANY child.

Well, no, you can't. I mean, they'll take the child back, but they'll never give you another one. Why did you adopt a child just because a celebrity did? Pardon me, but your question and your actions seem very cold. Why can't you love the child for who he is, not where he comes from? He's not an cat that you can return to the store if you don't like it. My advice to you, either keep the kid and love him or return him and never adopt a child again. Why does the child have to be from a certain country??? Why can't you love him for who he is???

you are a sick one kids are nothing to play with how would you like it if someone adopted you and said no i dont want you now because madonna has a malawian boy you stuiped - - - - - when you have a child and it is born but not how you wanted it to be can you stuff it back up inside your self no you dumb --- if this is how you are with kids i dont think you should be able to adopt any kids and i hope someone reports you and you lose the kid all i have to say is you must be one sick puppy

You question is a joke. It is not easy to adopt and takes alot of time, money and emotion. You really should be kicked off this site for making fun of adoption and the family who live this noble life.

i think this is just wrong! picking a child because a famous person has one! then if a better one comes along you just dump it and get a better one!? this is a child we are talking about! who has no family,you took it in and decided it would be your own,and now your just going to take it back! i think you should keep the child! i hope you make the right decision,and i hope i didnt seem to harsh! peace out!
