We have an issue with our car in which the Engine Management light comes on often and the car switches itself to Emergency Drive mode (I guess it's 'car-speak' for 'undriveable')

This happened a while back and the mechanic turned or flipped something under the bonnet that made the car more driveable in order to get the car to the garage.

Does anybody know how I can do this to my car? I need to get somewhere but Im not sure how to over-ride the emergency mode.

I know I shouldn't tamper with the car, but its urgent.

Any ideas?

Thanks so much
x

An easy trick to use is to disconnect the battery for a couple three minuites. If the error code ins't a "pending" one, then the computer will reset and you'll get a few miles out of it before it goes back into alternate ignition timing again.

Instead of finding how to override you need to get the fault sorted. The limp home mode is there for a reason. To stop the car suffering unnecesary damage.
Likewise the warning lights.

Get it diagnosed and fixed before it suffers more damage.

Most places now are on bus/train routes and there is always taxis. So you can use that to get wherever your going.

You need to get it to a garage with a code reader that will indicate the area the fault exists in.There is nothing under the bonnet that you can over ride the emergencey drive mode sorry harsh but true.Regards Mick
