As has been said (but not all in a complete post, just bits and pieces), it's bad to start and run a bike unless you get the oil up to temp. The oil will NEVER get to temp while idling, and at idle you're just circulating the water from condensation and acids that are a natural byproduct of combustion, in the lowest oil pressure possible, to all the parts of your motor. For the oil to get to temp and burn off the water and neutralize the acids, you should ride for 20~30 miles. If that's not possible, leave it alone.
If you're just winterizing, it's good to fill the tank as full as possible, at Stabil if you desire (cold is a natural fuel stablizer, but it's also Cheap and easy insurance). If you have FI, run the bike for a few minutes, then top off the tank again. If you have carbs, manually drain the float bowls (the ONLY way to get them truely empty) to prevent you from having carb issues the following spring. And hook up a battery tender to your battery....
Long term storage (8+ months) takes a little more, but you didn't ask about that.

Run the engine a bit prior to storage so that the fuel stablizer gets into the carbs or FI.Make sure the oil is changed to a 10w40/50 so when started in the spring it get right to lubricating. For cold weather storage I have found that problems in the spring come from a battery that just gives out. I have used a battery tender to keep the battery fully charged. Those can be found from a variety of on-line sources. Best if you can to get the bike's weight off of the tires also.
Hope this helps.

u'll wind up getting condensation in the oil from not getting the bike hot enough to burn that out. that will wind up making a sludge that u can remove only by ripping the motor apart.
unless i'm going to run the bike for a minumum of 20-30 miles, i leave it alone with the exception of making sure the battery is fully charged. if a battery freezes from being dead, it's no good. leave the bike alone till the roads are at the very least, bone dry. then run it for a good 20 or 30 miles to get the bike up to good operating temp. if u didnt change the oil before winter, change it after the first ride in the spring.

As long as is fully warmed up it won't do any damage. But, it does need to be hot and it would be better if you could put it under load. You should run it maybe once every two weeks, until the fan comes on which will keep everything dried out and prevent fuel system gumming up. don't pump the throttle, warm up and hold around 2,500~3,000rpm (or move to Florida for the winter :o) )

You don't say if the shed is heated? the one thing I would do is remove the battery and trickle charge it every two weeks or so.

DO NOT just start it everyday. Just put a "battery tender" on it and it will be fine
