I should probably have said 'How does Google make it's money'.
What an appalling grammatical faux pas.

Advertising, mostly.

They make money by those businesses who choose to be part of their sponsored links.

Basically, if you do a search on google you will be presented with a long list of results. The results on the right hand side of the page are sponsored links. These companies are charged 10p by Google everytime somebody clicks on their link.

Given the sheer volume of sponsored links there are on Google this adds up to a lot of revenue income.

There is, however, a problem. Competitors of companies which have aquired sponsored links often get their own staff to constantly hit this link thereby increasing the costs of the advertising company.

Adwords/adsense - advertisers pay a fee each time someone clicks on their ad, some goes to google some to the site with adsense.

Sponsored searches - If you do a search and click on the sponsored searches there is a fee taken by google (normal search results sre free)

Imagine google gets 5p per click on these links (don't know exact ammount) and multiply this by all the clicks worldwide (millions, tens of millions, hundred million?) and you get some idea of what could be possible.

Publicity and advertisements. So many people use Google as their main search engine, so they can make money from that. Also, there are different things that you can pay for on Google, like the shopping, which brings in money to them. Hope this answered your question.
