Well there are several types of electronic drums. There are electric drums that actully look like drums which are the Roland v drums, hart electronic drums and the DW electrics. Then there are the Electric drum pad. I was origanly going to get an electronic set. They are ALOT more expensive. The elctric kit was 5,00 and my set was 1,500. You can't add on to an electric kit, but there are more sounds to choose from.

The first generation certainly didn't, although with modern sampling it is hard to be sure what is real drumming anymore. The classic electric drum sound is very cold, which suits the atmosphere of some songs e.g. Blue Monday by New Order, and ruins others e.g. Like a Prisoner by Eric Clapton.

Well, electronic drums , whether it be a drum machine with pads or keys or drum pads , triggers, etc. are not like real drums. With real drums you get all the nuances of striking the heads and cymbals, etc. with varying degrees of attack to get a wide range of sounds. True, electronic drums have come a long way with some things such as "Touch sensitivity" and "note velocity" and such , but nothing compares to real drums.
