Write it all out, but don't send it. Come back and read it later, and see if you're still proud of everything you've written.

If it's your diary, yes be cautious. A secret isn't a secret when you tell someone else. What do want to write about? Does it make this country unsafe? Then, I would say no. Does it hurt you? Then, I would say no. Does it hurt someone you know for little or no reason. Then, I would say no. In writing, be fair, be exact, in the truth realm. In fiction, go for it. If you're mad at someone, write your invective, read it, burn it, be real.

It depends:

If it's your diary, watch out, my brothers read mine to the neighborhood boys.

If online:
Death threats - keep 'em in your head
Love life- remember, partner #2 doesn't want to read about all the stuff you did with previous partner #1
Slander & libel - ask yourself: can i afford a good lawyer? (or you can just "talk around" it & not use names
Politics - only Rush Limbaugh wants to read about how much you love Pres. Bush
Money - if you are poor, complain away; if rich, shut your mouth
WWW - mean "world wide web" - your mom, grandma, boss, teacher, bf, gf, future employers, recruiter, college admissions, priest, (you get the picture) can read what you write if you blog it

Seriously now, that said, go ahead and write, BUT be funny, philosophical, poetic, satiric, or introspective. Add to the world.

Why should you be cautious of what you write?!This is America, not Cuba or Russia where people in those countries have no rights. Our American constitution allows us read and write what we want. It's called "Freedom of the press."Anyone that opposes that law, goes up against the constitution.

It depends on your view of honesty. Do you want to be purely honest and unfettered, knowing that somewhere down the road you may have to accept consequences if someone finds out what you've written? Or do you take the conservative road and self-censor for your own protection, knowing that you're giving honesty a backseat? You should first decide which is more important to you.

I always have more than one draft FOR EVERYTHING. So here is my tip. 1st draft right it all, keep it flowing and keep it going. Then take a break. Go out and clear your head for at least an hour. Come back, re-read the paper, and edit things that are too much, or if they need to be said find a less harsh way of saying them. It's never failed for me.

If you let it all out with a rant and rave then you can clear your head for clearer thoughts.
What we perceive in our heads is not always how it is perceived when read.
Remember, reading is watching a play by play notion of others thoughts.

If you value what others think of you, you should write cautiously. If you value only what you think of yourself, write whatever you wish.
