Your question is too general. Do you mean underestimate the intelligence necessary to do the job? Do you mean underestimate the amount of hard work necessary to do the job? If it is intelligence then I think people underestimate anyone who works in retail. If it is hard work than I think people underestimate elementary school teachers.

Drivers license examiners. They get into accidents everyday. Everytime they get into a car, its a potential accident and they know how to drive. People think they are mean and rude and overpaid. They give at least 40 road tests a day, deal with at least 300 applicants a day, get into an accident a week and hope to stay in one piece and they make around $2,000 a month.

Did you know that health and accidental insurance is 30% to 40% higher for them than the regular employee??? They got to love it.

Motherhood!!!! Hard job, no pay, duties include Janitorial, Chauffer, Psychologist, Financial wizard, personal shopper, Child care, Education. By far the most important commodity coming in to our culture - our children. The ones who are committed to providing this commodity are not given the accolades that they deserve, not to mention the lack of a paycheck other than emotional satisfaction.

The receptionist for a company. Often paid bare minimum wages, this person provides the first and lasting image of a business, positive or negative. It is very under-rated and its importance barely studied but well know one thing for sure: first impressions count.

Teachers. Many people think they are overpaid for an easy job. Both of my parents are teachers and nothing could be further from the truth.

Mailmen/women. They have to walk all over the place in rain, snow, sleet, hot sun. And I was told that they even have to pay their own insurance on the trucks/cars. What dedicated people.
