always 20 percent. also, 5 percent to the person who washed my hair.
Again, depending on the salon, a lot of their income depends on the tips. Some of them do not get paid much, especially when still new to the stylist world (first 5 years).

I am a male and I tip my hair dresser/barber/stylist $3 as a general rule. I get my head shaved about every 45 days and it only takes about 8 min. So they cant expect so much of a tip.

Generally it is acceptable to tip between 15% and 20% of the bill nowadays.

I always tip 20 percent. Everywhere I go. I am a nail tech and a huge amount of my income is my gratuity. I know that I always try hard to give my clients excellent service, and I appreciate anything they give me.

I normally tip, depending on what's being done and the amount of time spent. 20% is the norm.
