If you can send me a message with what your motherboard is, I'll tell you which processors will work with it.

You might want to upgrade your ram too though, at least 1GB.

Check whether your motherboard supports Dual Core. Most of the motherboards which are introduced some 6 months back will not support both HT and Dual Core. So be careful.

From the DELL website it seems your motherboard won't support dual cores. So if you want to move to Dual core change your motherboard also.

Odds are you will have to upgrade your motherboard as well as your processor to acheive this. If your computer is still under warrenty with Dell, then you may be able to get a deal through them, if not, it may be cheaper in the long run to just sell the existing computer and get a new one. Also there is a problem with Windows XP that if you change motherboards to a different type, it may not work and you will need to re-install Windows to get it to work.

You may be able to get the exact motherboard but with core 2 duo capability ... phone Dell. The problem is the voltages are different. If it's just dual core you're after, (800D-900D series) and not core 2 duo, you may just need to flash your bios with an update.

They're all correct.. you would have to change your MoBo, for something which supports dual core.

probably not
Dell creates many custom parts and if you get one from an outside dealer, it may not work correctly if at all.
