A dragon or a dragon like creature upright with a pipe blowing smoke methodically - like it's a very important job - into all parts of a room.
I'm looking for something old school here not Disney movies. Thanks. If I might be thinking of something other than a dragon please tell me.

Thanks, it's not the caterpillar though. I think it's a drawing from a book with few pictures. Not anything Lewis Carroll - although I'm not sure that it's even from a book. It's a picture I saw somewhere a long long time ago. But if anyone remembers a story - maybe that will help put me on the right track. I fear it's an obscure thing.
How often do you here of pipe smoking dragons purposely puffing their smoke into a room?
It sure looked dragon like but that's why I wonder if it may have been a different sort of creature.

The closest thing that comes to my mind is the worm from Alice in Wonderland...though i know you said no disney movies. Just thought i would mention it just incase. He is a centipede or caterpillar sits on a mushroom and smokes a pipe, blows smoke and his answers make pictures, etc.

I think you might be referring to a picture of the devil. A smoking devil was used to tell how evil it was to smoke before it became fashionable to smoke cigarettes.
When it smells like smoke it was thought that the devil was around.
"There is no smoke without devil".... and the devil is a dragon.
The fire dragon.
