I recently found a job that is pretty much everything I'm looking for in terms of salary and position, except for one major problem - it's well outside the city, so the commute back and forth would probably be an hour each way, regardless of car or train.

This worries me, because I live in the city, would occasionally be working late, and it could destroy my evening social life (which isn't every evening, of course, but getting dinner, watching TV with friends, etc. is an important part of my relaxation in the evening.) Moving isn't an option right now - I just bought a new place in the city.

So - take the new job and deal as best I can with the commute, or keep looking, while not being happy with my current job?

Your description of the job leads me to believe that you would be wise to take it. You'll regret turning down what you consider to be such an excellent opportunity. You will be able to work out the commuting problems over time. Usually the morning commute from the city to the outskirts is much lighter and more pleasant than the other direction. If you commute by train, you can use the time to do some of the tasks that now take time when you are at home (paying bills, reading, doing research, etc.), which may create some time for your social life, even though you'll be getting home somewhat later. Good luck.

i believe job satisfaction is more important than comuting. As long as you are satisfied with all that is coming with the job it is great but comuting is at the end of the day and finally when u get to to ur home there is rest and all that personal u wanted to do and remeber there is a sunday when u can do all that u couldnt do during week days so i prefer not to loose career for some things that do matter but can be just takne care of later at anyday or any other time.

Take the job first, deal with the commute later; Jobs that are "pretty much everything" are hard to find. Your social needs are easier to adjust.
