I have bitten my nails since I was a baby and have stopped biting them for 5 weeks. They are growing and looking fairly tidy but is there anyway I can speed them up? I heard something about gelatine but i'm vegetarian and don't eat any meat products so thats out.

"If you want faster growing nails, be sure that your diet is rich in Vitamins A, B-Complex, C, D, E and iron, calcium, zinc, sulfur, and the essential fatty acids.
If you are wanting thicker, stronger nails, that is going to take a little more maintenance. Strong nails is a matter of hormones and genes. So if you don't have strong nails now and your not planning on getting pregnant any time soon, here are some tips!

MOISTURIZE! MOISTURIZE! MOISTURIZE!
Why do some nails crack and break all the time? Because their not flexible! So I recommend my all time favorite treatment. Creative Nail Design's "Solar Balm." There is also solar oil, but the balm is more of an intense therapy. Not only is it wonderful for your nails but it's even better for your cuticles. Apply twice a day on your nails and cuticles, if you can remember! Good places to keep it to remember are, your work place, on your desk. Or beside your bed, making it a morning and night ritual. In order to get this product, you could most likely go to any salon and request it, but if you have problems, contact me again and I can have it sent to you. If you want to go with another product, something is better than nothing.

Another reason nails become fragile is the way we treat them. Use gloves for household maintenance. When doing dishes or cleaning with chemicals.

IMPORTANT!
When filing your nails, use a high grit file. So use the smoother side of an emery board. File your nails side to center, side to center. Don't file back and forth, that weakens the nail. Don't file into the sides (cuticles) of your nails, it can cause hangnails. Keep your nails at a "square-oval" shape. You want your nails at their natural shape for maximum strength.

I have very week nails, but I can grow them out and rarely break one, because of this. My only other problem was keeping polish on them. But I have also solved that problem. I use the Nail-Tek Transition kit. It helps to get your nails back to normal after they have gone through hell and back. It comes with a basecoat, topcoat, and cuticle oil. It has to be replaced every 7 to 10 days depending on how you use it. But I never have chipping! If you have them polished I suggest a basecoat and topcoat and cuticle oil or balm twice a day! There are other products out there. If you want to know a bit more about this product let me know. This is another product you should request at a salon."

to get your nails to grow, be sure for a while to keep them cut short, and then to improve your diet go to the health food store and ask them for something for your nails ..... you also could get a nail & cuticle cream at the chemists ... In addition, every time you do dishes ( you do dishes, don't you? ) dry your hands afterwards
with a Turkish towel and gently push back the cuticles and that will make them look trim and will make your nails look longer because the cuticle is rolled back ..... if you do not do dishes, for some reason, just put a little mild hand soap into a shallow bowl and set yourself down at the table and soak them for 15 minutes .... then push your cuticles back with a Turkish towel ...

there is a way to make them grow healthier and this may encourage them to grow faster but its not a guarentee. go to a chemist and invest in a nailbuffer, it has three different parts to it and it buffs your nails in three stages, the first flattens out fine lines, the second smooths the way and the third buffs the nail to a high shine, doing this to your nails awakens the nail beds and provides the nail with the nourishment it needs to be come strong and healthy..... this has made mine grow quicker but as i said everyone is different. but good luck tryng if nothing else you will have stronger shinier nails and you will be proud of them.

Remember that the nails on the right hand (of a right-handed person) grows faster that the other one? It's because we always use it and it induces the growth of the nails.

Don't forget to eat veggies cause you need minerals to grow 'em faster.

Hope it helps... Goodluck!
