Traditional Valentines the boyfriend gave you a gift only. Then you'd share the gift he gave you. This gives him the opportunity to show his appreciation and feel challenged & contributing.

Certainly, a nice poem, card is nice, but men really love it when you appreciate them. In fact, in many cases, women blow it by making the man feel uncomfortable by buying too much. Valentines isn't about $$$ --- it's about time shared together in love.

Get him a nice card that expresses how you feel.

At what point did gift giving become a part of valentine's day? Hmmm, maybe that's a commercial push.
