The Leafs have not adjusted to the new league and its new speed. Bryan McCabe who has a blistering slapshot, cannot stop anyone from scoring other than using the can opener manoeuver which finds him sitting in the sin bin for two minutes or less.

Injuries have of course hurt them, but I agree that John Ferguson Jr. has made some woeful choices with reference to salaries, negotiations, and such.

I agree that in the past, they have signed "marquis" players and it has not worked in their favour - Jason Allison, Owen Nolan, Joe Nieuwendyk, etc. but they need a stud defenceman who knows how to stay OUT of the penalty box, a #1 line forward, that can play on the second line to give Mats Sundin a break, and they need a new tough guy. Last year, even thouh Tie Domi was slow, other teams did not take liberties with Maple LEaf players as they do now. Belak and Gill are no substitute.

Lastly, I found it appalling, even if he has coaching credentials, that the Leafs chose as their new coach Paul Maurice, since he is great at coaching the trap, which of course will land his team in the penalty box, and he is NOT offensive-minded which is what the team needs to be to win.

For the Leafs to be successful they need.
1) New GM
2) New coach
3) Stud Defenceman
4) An enforcer
5) Proven, offensive-styled forward who is not in the last years of his career.

** I would also add that the training staff (conditioning staff, doctors, etc.) need to go since the Leafs, year after year, seem to get injuries from simply getting tired or turning their bodies awkwardly. I realize that injuries are part of hockey, but why does a simple abdominal strain take a Leaf one month to recuperate from when on other teams, it takes five or six days?

you won't be able to tell men to flow interior the tank, and suggesting it really is terrible. the area is they don't have any intensity. seem at how communities like Washington and Philadelphia replied even as they'd injuries (AHL callups on the waiting who can carry out). those stockpiles took years of sturdy, good, smart drafting. The Marlies are not precisely loaded, by technique of evaluation. As a STH, i choose the crew to compete each evening. What I said on Saturday...i visit stay with that. What I said previously interior the week made me ill. that's now unlikely to be one guy that by some potential receives the club circled; you should have years of excellent drafting. quite, I "like" Tavares, yet he's not some generational participant. He can be a respectable performer on the NHL element, yet any comparisons to novices which have are available in and post numbers from the be conscious flow...completely erroneous. His skating desires artwork. i have reported this earlier, and that i will assert it back; Fletcher did an exceptionally underrated pastime holding the GM seat warmth for Burke. He moved income, he were given rid of the useless weight. If Toronto can flow men who may nicely be moved (i.e. that do not have NTC's) on the cut-off date...tremendous. they should be stockpiling alternatives, youthful men, and ideally some forwards. The untouchable list isn't very lengthy. I nevertheless am surprised on the deals the Flyers pulled a pair years in the past even as they were undesirable; I shop wondering Holmgren had images of Nashville's GM with cattle or something.

simply, poor management skills.

over the years, they "banked" there hopes on goalies like joseph and belfour -- good enough to be in the diluted nhl but not good enough to win the biggie.

then they keep idiots like domi for 12 years, hang on to sundin for for far too long, and continually alter the team to 'try and do it this year', and 'this year' and 'this year'.

start fresh, build a team framework, add to it, and build a contender.
have some damn vision, leaf loser management.
although i hope they do not, because i've always hated the leafs.
