I've always been told by those in my family that I should iron my clothes inside-out because it won't ruin or damage my clothes. Is this true?

I wouldn't say it won't ruin or damage your clothes, you still have to use the correct heat setting for the fabric. But you do it inside out just in case you have the iron too hot and it scorches your fabric then the burn marks are on the inside. Also, if you've gotten something on the iron it won't leave a mark on the clothing where it can be seen if you do it inside out.
