I wish these people would just shut up and act!

Any thoughts?

I also wish that they would shut-up and act! a prime example is when a high- school dropout like Cher gives a political opinion and doesn't even understand the issue. Or when Barbara Streisand publishes incorrect information about a candidate in a political race. The sad thing is that people actually care about what they (celebs) think and they are totally irresponsible for using the media coverage to further someone else's political agenda, even if its untrue. They are practically immune from lawsuits because they are only talking about "public figures" anyway. It is called being irresponsible and immature!

I tend to think of them as simply people who have an opinion. I give them the same respect for their right to an opinion that I would give anyone. I may not agree, or I might. If they seem informed that's a plus for them, but they aren't going to sway my opinion on anything important. It's just another opinion coming from someone famous, what's the big deal? So they have a platform because they are famous and for that reason we hear their opinions. Shrug... I don't respect the opinion of blowhards like Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson but we get it anyway don't we? Should they just shut up about politics and preach their religion? Probably, but that's not going to happen either.

I think that informed opinions are encouraged in America...and these people have the ears of America. The word important here is 'informed'. If their message can be brought where other's might not be heard...it could be a good thing. But it is important for them to understand the issues clearly before they speak. They have a great responsibility, knowing that they will be heard, to act and speak in an intelligent and informed way.

I agree! Trust me, I really don't care if Brad and Angelina EVER get married, whether homosexuals are allowed to or not!!!! I just can't believe that they think that they are so important politically to make such a statement!

They are entitled to their opinion. Just as the Sean Hannitys and Ann Coulters are.
You dont have to listen to them. You can always turn your tv off. You do know how to do that dont you? Its really not that hard. Give it a shot.
