Not within miles of downtown. If you do not want to pay the $3-$5 per day at T stops the closest free parking near the T where you can probably get away with parking all day (they don't check)
is the Stop&Shop lot in Malden 2 blocks away from both the Orange Line and commuter rail stations. Alternatives may be the Stop&Shop lot 2 blocks from Jackson Square Station (Orange Line) and the Shaw's/Star Market lot a short walk from Hyde Park Station (Providence commuter rail line)

An alternative is to drive to the Heath Street stop on the E train on the green line (Huntington Ave.). It's right outside of the VA Medical Center. There is a small parking lot right there (not the medical centers parking lot) where you can park for free...get there either early or late and you shouldn't have a problem.

If you can get there *really* early, you can park for free on Memorial Drive in Cambridge near MIT. From there it's either a "short" walk across the Harvard Bridge (Mass Ave) into Boston, or you can walk to the Kendall/MIT T station (red line).

You can park on Northern Ave, right by the Courthouse/waterfront area for $9 a day. That's the cheapest I found for being right in town - huge lots. Not sure how long they'll be there though - rumor is they're being sold for development
