The reason why women are not allowed to join Freemasonry is only historical in nature. Freemasonry is an international organisation and any major changes in ideology or functioning needs sanction from the international community. There has still not been a consensus on this though a number of women members have been proposed.

There is the Order of The Eastern Star where a male relative has to be a Mason to beome a Star member. Yes men can become members of the Eastern Star btw....they serve as Worthy Patron, Secretary, Chaplain to name a few stations in the Chapter that men can serve in. As for women being a Mason, why? It was formed by "masons" and not many masons were women, why try to change a long tradition just for the sake of something like that?
All one has to do to become a Mason is to Ask to be one and to believe in God. And yes, there are values they hold to like brothers if they are in it for the right reasons. You have bad that can get into anything, the bashing to this organization comes from ones ignorance of the good they do.

Because it is an organization for MEN only. I don't think that men can join The Eastern Star organization. Well at least that is the way it used to be. However in our changing world I am sure all of these guide lines will be altered. If all this crap continues men will be wearing skirts and women will be wearing Jock Straps.
There! Have I offended you little New Age Shits again. I certainly hope so. Report away! You are all dumber than a box of rocks.

initially masons were a craft guild from the medieval situations and because doing masonry is amazingly heavy artwork, it probably became purely done by technique of guys. hence, the first fraternal organizations were probably all men and because then they were like that earlier they created a convention. The positive aspect of the free masons is that they are extremely philanthropic. However, they have these silly little "secret" readings that one must memorize and be tested on...with different levels to achieve...and meetings. They state that women cannot join...supposedly, they have high morals and wonderful values.

I personally know masons...and do not find them to be any different than anyone else once they step out of the temple...and have been VERY disappointed.

If you ask me, it's just another forum for people to make themselves feel better and important when they are lacking something else in their life.

Ummm because it's still a male dominated society. They do have groups for women though. I think women are less lightly to roll up trouser legs bear their breasts and put up with being threatened with knives and then have to lay in coffins pretending to die and be reborn.

Probably because it is hundreds of years old and thus started in the days when women were the inferior sex and just did not do anything but stay at home washing, cooking. cleaning and breeding.

because its just another version of male dominated organized religion created to make some men feel more important and godlike. (this does not preclude these men from yelling "oh god" in the early hours of the morning) see some examples above...
