since no one knows for sure, our energy is better used positioning ourselves to be happy and as close to living in paradise, now, here on earth.

Even so, the question is relevant and provides an exercise of the mind. Logically, our death is not the end, we become fodder for other lifeforms like worms and trees perhaps, being incorporated in short in the cycle of life. As for the spirit or soul, there are many conflicting theories and religious beliefs. Reject them all or pick one you like and let that be your guide. Ignore what I or others think, in matters of the soul, what we think is irrelevant...what you think is significant.

Fact: the human race has been around for hundreds of thousands of years.

Fact: the concepts of an afterlife, of gods, spirits, etc. have only been around for a few millenia.

Fact: these concepts were invented and promulgated by ignorant barbarians as an attempt to explain the world around them, before there was a such thing as science or epistemology.

Fact: most of the books of the bible were written by people who were never there, as second- or third-hand accounts decades or even centuries after the events they claim to tell about.

Fact: the books of the bible have been heavily edited over the centuries, with passages or even whole books being re-written or omitted to fit the theological and political climates of the time.

Fact: the books of the bible have also been subject to extensive errors, misinterpretations, and differences of opinion in interpretation as they are translated from one language to another and from that to yet another language.

Without evidence, the existence of an afterlife is just fanciful thinking.

If you think about it then it doesn't make any sense in just dying and never doing anything else don't you think? I mean, if we die and stay dead forever, as some people think, what is the purpose of us on this earth? to die? there has to be something that happens to us afterwards if we were actually chosen to live. it wouldn't make sense just to live and then die and never do anything else. We have to go somewhere else, maybe back on this earth, maybe somewhere else, who knows

Your physical body will die. Your soul will never die. Souls are immortal. The soul is the true self.

When your body dies, it is the end of your present incarnation. You (your soul) will move on to a different place. Just as bodies don and shed clothes, souls don and shed bodies.

As the other responder just wrote, it is more important what you believe will happen to you than what others believe. Personally, I believe that my body will go back to the earth and decompose. I hope that whatever impact I have made in life will live on through the contributions of generations to come; children, grandchildren and hopefully, their children.

When you die, you do not go anywhere, except into the ground. Sorry, death is a state of no more furthering awareness nor the remembrance of the past. That all.

It is not that much simple to answer your question. But I will try my best. Plese bear with me. "Upanishads" says there is no birth and death. Search for a Guru who knows "Upanishads" well and explain to you. There is no death or birth to God. God is everywhere. So, whatever you see is God. And whatever you can not see is God. He is there in You and me too. What ever borns will die. To whom there is no birth, He will be there forever. He is You and Me. He never dies. Those who immerses in his charecter, in the Drama, will die. He who knows what He himself will not die, but the charecter in that drama will die. The actor won't die. There is no end to Him. He is only there. To understand and know what you are just read one Upanishad. Then you will know what you are and never ask such questions.

There is no answer. Anyone who puports to know what happens to ones conciousness when they die is doing so out of weakness, the inability to face the unknown.
