yes The dreaded Mildew, this happen´s when there is very little or lack of ventilation normally if you leave your garment in the sun light this kills off the mildew, but if it´s been left to long then the best I can suggest is to apply some lemon juice and leave it to dry before washing it , that is if it´s a washable garment, If it´s a dry cleaning garment moisten with lemon juice and sprinkle with salt leave in the sunlight to dry .Alliteratively use a proprietary fungicide following the instructions carefully. That´s all I can suggest

Vinegar/water in a "Mister Bottle" will take out any kinds of Mold, or mildew!! Its a germ eater, and an odor eater!! Just put 1/4 vinegar, with 3/4 warm water, or cold water(the temperature doesn't matter)... Mist away, and the vinegar smell will Disipate!! It will go away trust me on this one!! I use this solvent for so many things!! But, if the mildew has already eaten away at the color of the clothing and/or put holes in it, then you may as well throw it away....However, if it hasn't you still have time to spray this solvent on it, and spray alot of it on there, too!! Hang your clothing out to dry, somewhere in your house, and wait it out! I use this solvent to get rid of shoe odor in my kids shoes, for getting wrinkles out of clothing from straight out of the dryer, for carpet spills, for bathroom odors, its a "Wonder Home Remedy!!" Kid you NOT!!! That and baking soda!!! But, unless you go and buy the baking soda laundry soap, and pre-wash your clothing, and add a tad more baking soda to your laundry, the kind thats "Arm & Hammer" to the wash load, then see how things come out!!! Then use the vinegar/water solvent after they come out of the dryer!! You should be "Good To Go!!!" Smile!!!

Dry cleaning would be the first idea. Soaking the clothes in 20-Mule Team Borax before washing might help (gets rid of all sorts of smells, especially sweaty gym clothes).
