Supposedly, Nobel's rival for a woman was a mathematician, but that's probably not true. When Nobel was planning the Prizes, there was already a very prestigious award that was given to mathematicians. Also, it's possible that Nobel didn't consider mathematics as important as other arts and sciences.

Ah, confident, I by no potential considered that. It does create a topic for democracy in case you award a sitting president with that style of honour. Presidential election debate 2012 -- introducing Nobel Peace Prize winner Obama as against some Republican senator. Now, discusing international family members, what does the Nobel Peace Prize winner think of roughly this . . . . and now over to the Republican warmonger on the different area. Haha, yeah it skewers issues a splash. ;)

I think every discipline of education has a theoritical part and a practical part.
So we have Pure chemistry...Applied Chemistry, Pure Physics and applied Physics and so on.Even in mathematics we have Pure and applied mathematics.Where the applied mathematics are engaged or sed?In almost all disciplines. So unless one is best in mathematics,he can't be a Scholar of any Discipline. So mathematics is interywined in all other subjects, and the reverse is not true.In maths you dont find Physics, chemistry etc.
So mathematics being an integral part of all other disciples ,I think probably there IS NO NOBLE PRIZE SEPARATELY FOR IT.Thats what I think.

I think the prize was designed for things that would be immediately useful, but that had peaceful application. Mathematics is useful in other sciences, but is not in itself useful for anything. Mathemeticians also have the Fields Medal, making the Nobel Prize rather unnecessary in their fields.
