It's the same answer to, "Which came first - The chicken or the egg".. It doesn't matter because they both exist.. We do not have a real point to say when the lizard became a bird and later a chicken so we don't really know... At which point did the apes begin to officially be homo-sapiens? And was there a gender first described as a homo-sapien? Even if they realised they were now homo-sapiens, they hadn't learned to type so they could let the rest of us know..

Since man evolved from other creatures by adapting over thousands of years to his environment, one would have to assume that both males and females evolved concurrently.
