The Sci Fi Horror Event Horizon was a disaster at the box office as oppose to the super succesful Aliens. I loved both movies and see the heightened qualities in James Camerons Aliens however why was Aliens so succesful and Event Horizon a failure? I ask because I am writing a sci-fi script and want to know what works and what bombs

Aliens was scarrier, more intense and ventured into horror territory. It helped that is was a sequel to Alien (one of sci-fi's all-time greats). Alien had a creature designed by H. R. Giger ...very cool .

Event Horizon was closer to a psychological, ghost story. There wasn't a face to put to the "evil". That's my take.

Aliens was a monster movie. Event Horizon was brainier, and more sci fi. Brainy always bombs over action.
