Griffith own the Senators and was making all his money on the Grays from the Negro league back in the day. if it wasnt for the Grays Griffith would of been a bum on the street.

I do feel for the (few) loyal fans that the Montreal Expos had a the end of their time in Canada. Unfortunately, there were more Habs fans than Expo fans in Montreal and they did not consistently draw enough in attendance to be financially competitive.

The past teams in Washington, D.C. did not draw well enough to maintain their teams, either. But that was before the huge financial growth in the metro Washington area; the median salary has gone up greatly in the Northern Virginia area where the Washington Nationals near where they will ultimately play.

For years the Expos were owned by someone that could not financially keep up; later they and the Nationals were owned by the other Major League teams. With a rich real estate magnate now owning the Nationals they should be able to compete for the best players especially after they get their new ball park.

They're building a brand-new stadium, the team is going nowhere any time soon. The previous teams weren't failures in the typical sense, both of the previous incarnations of the Washington Senators left because the owners decided to move the team.

The owners of the franchise followed the money and moved the teams. Washington was immediately granted a new franchise after the Twins left because of the large fan base. When the Senators left again in the '70s to become the Rangers a new team wasn't granted because baseball was looking to expand into new markets.

Neither team was a failure. They didn't have long leases signed with the cities and stadiums at the time and if an owner wanted to up and move a team to make more money, he could.

The same thing happened with the Giants and Dodgers and the Colts and Browns in the NFL...

The 2nd version of the Senators left in 1972. To argue that Washington is the same city in 2005 as it was 33 years earlier, and would support or fail to support a team like it did back then, is foolish.

I think they have failed most of the time because of their location. Being in our nations capitol is hard and not a place where many players will play in the next 10 years. I don't think they will last very long and I bet they will move some where else. I don't think Washington, D.C. as a baseball home I mostly consider it home to the president.

Well, using this kind of logic, why are the Cubs allowed to continue to be a team? Yes their fans show up for games, but no one beats the Cubs for failing miserably.
