Depends on the variety of nauga. The naugas from India are fairly small; 26 is a good estimate.

The naugas from South America are much bigger; is would only take about 10, but their hides don't last as long.

But the naugas from the New York City sewers are huge, and they've developed really tough hides; it would only take about 2 of them. They're also real easy to catch--at night, you just go out in a dark part of the city with a paper bag and a flashlight and call out, "Here, nauga nauga!" several times and pretty soon one will come up out of the sewer.

That's why naugahyde is so cheap.

Traditionally, one nauga will generate enough hide to cover 1/5 of a foot of naugahyde sofa. There fore you would need about 40 naugas.

When will people let the poor naugas alone. PETA says 31 are needed, because you can't use their belly hide.
