Since I've never been I can't say. But I bet half the people on this website downing the entire African continent haven't been their either. People need to stop believing everything they hear in the biased media and get off their @ssess and see Africa for themselves. Anyway Africa has around 61 territories so no one can judge the entire continent unless they've been to every territory or country in Africa.

Speaking from personal experience - I have been to Egypt and to Kenya, then I have to say they were the two best holidays I ever had. Kenya was especially beautiful and the safari I went on was out of this world. I have always said I would never leave England, but if I did it would be Kenya I would move to. Egypt obviously is entirely different and yes, it can be smelly, and the begging gets on your nerves, but the history and culture far over ride this. Have not been to anywhere else, but it is a very poor continent in parts, rife with disease. So, it is a mixture.

Africa is where my ancestors came from. I think it's a continent that is vastly overlooked except by a few kind celebs. Africa has been raped of all her resources, (gold, diamonds, coal, etc.), and is in constant turmoil. Some see only the wars, and not the peole who are struggling for just the basics needed for survival. I see a continent in need of prayer and aid from other nations. God help Africa!

You must go there some time. The people are friendly yet they have less than you. The atmosphere is brilliant. You will leave with the depth of your soul refreshed.
Yes there are problems there, but that is not the be all and end all to your visit.
When it is said that we come from Africa, it is meant that our hearts and the depth of our beings come from there and can be found again in the richness of the place.

I think people need to stop being ignorant and educate themselves. Africa's not poor infact, we're rich in terms of other things. We probably aren't rich in terms of technology, wealth. But we have a beautiful culture, fashion, art. Atleast we don't talk back or disrespect our parents the way the people from the western country do. We don't need all these plastic surgeries and things to look beautiful. We already feel naturally beautiful. So all those things are a wast of time. Probably we're not the richest but we're definitely NOT POOR, cause we don't feel poor.

Africa is the pot of milk and honey, with the content exclusively and mercilessly consumed by foreign and local imperialists, while the ruled toil to keep the container intact and neat and the content ever replenished, mostly with their own sweat and blood.
Africa is a land of unequal opportunities.... a land of want in abundance... a land of ironies.

i absolutely love it!
it has so many problems, and i really feel that we have so much responsibility to do as much as we can to help. its partially our fault that their countries are in the state theyre in, so its our duty to help out a lil bit.
i spent last summer in Burkina Faso (W Africa) and hope to spend this summer there too. its an amazing and beautiful country, and the people are the nicest you will ever meet. i just wish life could be better for them. lets all hope that it will!
just imagine...if everyone did one little thing to help (maybe buying one fairtrade product each week, giving £2 a month to charity...), think of the difference we could make!!!!!

Been stunned recently about my lack of knowledge on Africa. This was brought about since I watched Hotel Rwanda and Blood Diamond. I cannot believe that I knew so little about the genocide in Rwanda in recent years. I spoke to a colleague the other day. He is from Zaire and he told me that British people only really understand about apartheid and famine when we discuss Africa. It has been a mission of mine now to find out more about the whole continent
