Don't even have to make up a story, it is the law now. T-Mobile, Cingular and all GSM carriers have to give you the unlock code. Not really how Verizon and Sprint are subject to this, but I know that SIM card people have the advantages as far as unlocking goes. Flat out tell them you are switching to T-Mobile, just as people with Sidekicks come over to Cingular...it's cool

I had bought a phone on eBay and it was only unlocked to Cingular but I had a t-mobile plan. I found this store around Chicago that can unlock the phone for you. You can ship the phone to them and they can unlock it for $10 or they can give you the code for $25 over the phone. Their number is 773-818-7505. They are nice people too.

Call Cingular and tell them you are going out of the country and would like to use a local sim and they will send you the unlock code. It works.

bodily, they'll fit. with the intention to apply the phone with Cingular, the phone may should be unlocked first. although, utilising the Sidekick with Cingular may be unnecessary except you're purely going to apply it for making and receiving calls. the information servers(information service for Sidekick is through chance) at the instantaneous are not accessible via Cingular's community.
