I have recently aquired an older laptop without any of the original software. I would like to upgrade however I do not know if I need the original setup disk from Compaq.

I know it is HP but that is who you have to talk to now.

You could just try the "Upgrade" version of an operating system. This will allow you to keep the programs installed and still upgrade.

While this is not the ideal thing to do, it will work to a point. Some software depends on the paths of certain files to operate properly. These paths are changed when you update to a new operating system. It doesn't happen to a lot of the newer programs. But it can still happen.

Another option would be to go onto compaq's website to see if they offer these utilities for download.



Most likely you would loose the utilities if you do not have the discs for them.
