Does anyone remember a time when BBC Radio 1 used to play a tune they entitled "Sad Song" and tell a pitiful and sometimes comical story over the top of it in dulcit tones about some poor sap whose birthday had been forgotten or cat eaten by a violent boyfriend or similar?
I think it was a piece of classical music, but I can't seem to find it anywhere and would love to know what it was called so I might get hold of it...

Love Theme from Romeo and Juliet. The feature was called "Our Tune", and appeared on the Simon Bates show.

Previous posters are correct. I only post here to say that when I first saw Zeffirelli's Romeo and Juliet, I didn't know this. So I'm watching this very famous love scene and suddenly the music is from the Simon Bates show...

'Our Tune' A feature which started in 1980, heard at 11.00 on his morning programme; Simon would read out a listener's story about their relationship, but changed the names of the people. The story was read out with the background music 'Romeo & Juliet', from Franco Zeffirelli's 1968 film score.
