Avoid soft drinks, candy, cakes, and cookies. It's all right to indulge every now and then, but if you stay away from those, you'll be better off. Also drink lots of water and try to walk every day. Take your prenatal vitamins and if you can, eat every 2-3 hours, like six small meals a day instead of 3 regular ones. I gained 40 pounds with my first pregnancy and have gained 35 with this one. I wouldn't worry too much about the weight. I lost most of my baby weight within 6-months after having my son. I lost the rest within the year by joining the gym and avoiding sweets. I didn't diet because I didn't have the willpower! And as far as the stretchmarks, there isn't any definite thing you can use to avoid them. They do have this stuff at GNC, but it's super expensive, and I don't know if it really works. I did the cocoa butter twice a day with my first pregnancy, and if you could see my stomach, you'd see it didn't work one bit! Of course, every woman is different, so it could work for you, you never know. Motherhood Maternity or Mimi Maternity also has some lotions that smell better, but they're like $12. Good luck!

If your mom has stretch marks, you probably will, too. No amount of cocoa butter will change that. Sorry. Cocoa butter WILL help with the itching, though, as your tummy stretches.
Your body will never be the same. Sorry. You can still be in good shape after a baby, but you won't be the same as you were before.
Do NOT diet while pregnant. That said, you don't want to eat a diet of Oreos and Coke, either. Eat normally - healthy, well-balanced meals. Eat frequently. Try to eat if you have morning sickness, even though it makes you feel sick. Eat when you're hungry, and eat what sounds good (within reason).
Try to get lots of protein (meats and dairy), and lots of fruits and veggies. Limit refined carbs (white flour and white sugar) to a reasonable amount.
I read a study several months ago that said that mothers who eat chocolate daily have happier babies than mothers who stay away from chocolate! Best study ever!!
Stay away from caffeine. Stay away from picnics this summer (the last thing you need is food poisoning from bad potato salad when you're 6 months pregnant, trust me. I had the flu at 5 months and it SUCKED!). Make sure you're eating at clean restaurants, and that you're observing all the rules for safe food handling (like, don't rub raw chicken all over your salad!). Use common sense. Stay away from sushi (who would eat it, anyway? Yuck!) and other raw meats. Wash raw veggies and fruits carefully.
Otherwise, eat normally and enjoy your pregnancy! Congratulations!

Even if you eat healthy throughout your pregnancy you can gain a lot of weight. That is not a bad thing! You want to eat about 70-90 grams of protein every day, about a quart of milk, lots of veggies and fruit, some grains, and minimal fats and junk foods. If you follow a 90/10 ratio (meaning you eat well 90% of the time and eat junk only 10% of the time) you should be fine. However, I followed this ratio and gained 40 pounds. There was nothing wrong with me or with my baby, who was a healthy 8 1/2 pounds when born. I lost all the weight within 4 months as I was fairly active with the kids and breastfed. Don't freak out about your weight too much. You need to gain weight. You just need to do it by eating healthy!

I would eat like you normally would. If your diet was unhealthy before pregnancy then this may be the time to introduce some new foods to yourself. Keep your sweets and caffiene to a minimal, don't eliminate them. Weight gain is different in every preg. Normal weight gain should be about 25 pounds...your midwife or OBGYN will let you know. Exercise is very important as well during the pregnancy. Not only will it keep the weight where you want it, but it will also benift you during labor. Most women will have an easier time. ( Please consult your dr. before begining any exerciese program.) This could be as simple as walking every day. Swimming is also very good the bigger you get, the water takes the weight off and lets you move freely. After the baby is born, it will take time for the pounds to come off. Wait for the okay to begin exercises again.. Although, you may want to consider nursing you baby. This will help your body get back to normal quicker. It also is the best for the baby, but what ever you choose, it has to be what works for you in the end. As far as stretch marks, continue to lotion your skin. Palmers cocobutter may work. Everyone is different. Enjoy your pregnancy!

Coco butter will help. However, the best thing is emollient cream. I dont know if you know anyone who sells mary kay products but in the their little kit called "satin hands" there is something calls emollient cream. It is really thick (thicker than petroleum jelly) and it works wonders! When I was pregnant with my daughter I used it when I had the big blue and red stretchmarks and it helps so much. I would use it everyday if you can!
Also, as far as loosing the weight. THE VERY BEST THING to do to lose weight is to breastfeed once the baby is born. Breastfeeding really makes all the weight come off. My daughter is 8 months old and I have been breastfeeding her from the beginning and I am lighter now than I was before I was pregnant! It burns tons of calories. Just think about it.... all the calories you are intaking, you are giving her. I did not change my eating habits at all once I had my baby and I lost weight!
Ok, now for what to eat... Eat often! Even when you are at work and very busy you should pause even if just for a little snack. I use to eat nonfat yogurt, pudding, peanut butter crackers, canned fruits (low sugar), deli meats, and other sensable foods. And at meal times don't cut back on the foods you love. I am not saying to binge at every meal but enjoy the foods just like you did before you were pregnant. And as you are getting farther into your pregnancy you will start to crave certain stuff. Some of the things you crave won't be very nutrious but be smart when you buy the stuff. If you are craving icecream buy lowfat or low calorie icecream. For me, I use to crave cold and fruity things, things like italian ice, fruit juices, fruit popsicles, etc. But just be smart about it. And another things about juices are that you really HAVE TO READ THE LABEL!!! Even stuff that they recommend like JUICY JUICE are full of extra sugar and calories. Go for the stuff that is sensable. And drink lots of fluids whether it is juice or milk or water or whatever. And don't listen to those people who tell you to totally avoid beverages with aspartame. A couple of drinks with artifical sweetner in them a day will not hurt your baby. I am not saying that you should kick back a pack of diet coke every day but drinks like crystal lite or diet kool aid are really okay. They dont have that much sweetners in them and they are very low in calories or sugars.
Good Luck. Let me know if you have anyother questions.

I would suggest a gestional diabetic diet. This way you may not get it and it is a carb diet. It will help you maintain a good weight. I am a gest. diabetic and I have followed the carbs pretty good this time around. I have only gained 17lbs with this one so far and I am going on 30wks tuesday. Watch your soda intake, they are full of sodium, I get the urge to drink one every now and then.. so I drink Sprite zero.. it has no sugar or carbs. With my 1st pregnancy I gained 60lbs. YIKES! Coco butter is good for stretch marks as well. Exercise too. Walk 30 to 45 mins daily. Unless the doctor advises you not too. Good luck and congrats.

Eat all junk food in moderation. Your body is going to be different after the pregnancy. Yours hips will be wider, your breasts will be different, all kinds of fantastic changes. Keep a positive outlook on it! Enjoy!
