The child has to find a way to cope with the pain they feel. Nothing is as fragile as the mind of a child. But nothing is as adaptable either. The effects vary widely depending upon each child's coping skills and can result in crippling shyness, over asertiveness, abuse of others who are weaker,or completely dettaching from thier emotions and creating seperate personalities to deal with the abuses. There are lots of possible effects but one thing's for sure abuse always leaves a scar. Wiether it's physical, verbal, mental, emotional, or sexual, the child will carry that scar all of thier life !

It depends on the person, the type, severity, and duration of the abuse, and what, if any help they got.

Everyone is insulted by someone during the course of their lives, but I assume you mean habitual insult from a parent or other authority figure.

A very few people seem to not be adversely affected.

Most are. Some become timid, depressed, withdrawn -- many of these tend to seek out more of the same (ironically, but that's how it goes). It's as though they need to find the same situation, to change it, or in some way feel that's what they deserve.

Others become aggressive or anti-social.

Often, both types can be helped with therapy; a few can heal on their own eventually.

Specifics or context would have been helpful.

welll it depends on what type of abuse. I had a friend in High School who was frequently emotionally abused by his mothers boyfriend and that caused for him to be very self conscious of his look and his weight (he lost over 100 pounds by taking speed because the boyfriend always made fun of his weight). Also some may have a fear of intimacy or become very introverted in the future.

They abuse or insult others when they grow up. They have low self -eteem/self-worth, depression and aggressive behavior or anger. They may take a complete different route and be shy and meek and allow people to walk all over them or continue in an abusive relationship. Quite sad.

Some of them snap, the majority of the ones who do these school shootings and cause problems at school were abused.

children do not have the maturity to process their anger at being treated poorly so it manifests itself in aggression and other negative behavior. Sad, I don't understand anyone being mean to a child, they are so precious.
