You may try these things
1. replace the thermostat
2. replace the radiator cap.
3. if you have a hot car smell an steam coming through your vents, try some stop leak in the radiator.
Have you checked the coolant level?

It's definitely a thermostat. It is probably stuck closed. FYI: some cars have 2 thermostats. If you have the larger v-6 or v-8 you only have one. Up front above the pulley system, where the main radiator hose feeds the top of the block is where you will find it.

Check the coolant level, if there is no heat it could be low on coolant, heater core is bad, blockage to heater core (radiator flush would solve this problem). But if it is running hot and no heat I would say the coolant is low.

I would check my coolant, change the thermostat, and possibly have it flushed (the vehicle is 11 years old and this will open plugged passages in your radiator and heater core).
