I don't know what you've done so far... but here's what should have been done: Look at the icon on the bottom right corner of your screen (i'm assuming this McAfee also has its own firewall) turn off the firewall, and allow MS firewall to activate... next, turn off the security center. Then to go add remove programs, and select the program.... remove it... completely. if that feature is not available in the add rem programs, go to Start > Programs > your programs... see if theirs an uninstall feature built in to the program (generally, if there is, it should have been automatically accessed, from the add-rem progs).
When the program has been uninstalled, shut the system down (don't restart) let is set for about 30 seconds to a minute, then turn it back on (theoretically, this allows for the RAM to fully blank out),
When you restart, use windows explorer to go to the files, and delete them all manually. I use system mechanic to even wipe the registry of the programs (reg cleaner does a good job too!)
I don't know what antiviral prog you're considering over McAfee, (Norton sucks just as bad) and PC Cillin (aka Inernet security 2007) is a great!!! program, but also very good/great program is AVG, it's from Germany, and it's still free to individuals (businesses must pay), you can get it from their website, do a search for Grisoft (that's the company who makes it)
Hope this helps!
