Teams are usually associated with a group of people working towards a specific aim, so why is the olympic team called a team, which has members working in different countries?

I'm not sure I fully understand the question either, but I'm going to give answering it a shot.

An Olympic team usually is all the athletes that represent a country. So there is the U.S. Olympic Team, the Canadian Olympic Team, the French Olympic Team, and so on. Though the athletes play different sports, and are trying to earn medals for themselves, they are also trying to earn as many medals possible for their country. In that sense they are working together in order to win for their country.

The Olympic team for a given country is made up of athletes and coaches from different sports competing for there country. Individuals try to win medals for themselves and the country the represent. It does not matter if you work in a different country they all compete for the same country.

I've gotta be honest, I really don't understand this question. An Olympic team is a team of athletes from different sports playing for their country. Am I wrong?
