You’ve misunderstood the situation. Russia (more correctly Joseph Stalin) didn’t trust anyone or any country. His goal (as was Hitler’s) was to control the world. During his rise to power he killed 30 to 60 million of his own people and every rival for leadership. Without the help from the West (primarily the United States) Russia would have had a much more difficult time with Germany (if not an outright loss). At the end of World War II Russia took over the Eastern European countries that had been free prior to World War II. In addition Stalin lied as to what he would do in the combined managing of Germany after the war. Churchill’s description of Russia building an Iron wall across Europe was correct and the beginning of the cold war.

I don't think it was so much distrust because America and the Allies sent them supplies when they were losing the war with Germany in Russia. It was the difference in Communism versus Democracy. Russia was in a race to capture all the technology from Nazi Germany before another world superpower could get their hands on it. Russia lost severe casualties and went through a lot of pain in World War II so they thought they were the ones entitled to the benefits of winning the war.

It didn't start at the end of WWII - there was always mutual distrust (to put it mildly) between the USA & USSR. Remember the US (along with the UK, France, Japan and others) intervened in the Russian civil war on the side of the Whites after all.

the cold war was pretty much started on the disagreement of how to rebuild post war Germany . Which had the two super powers racing to build their armies and space programs and the spies and everything else until the soviet Union exhausted all their resources and Mikhail Gorbachev announced the reform to smooth things with the U.S.

They were trying to enslave as much of europe as possible and we didn't like that. We also supposrted people fighting against their commi masters or groups trying to impose comminism in Greece and easter europe.
They didn't trust us before the war. During the war they though we were delibrately delaying the invasion of France so they would be weakeded in their fight with the Nazis.
