If there should be a low of 46 and a high of 53, for example, when is the low measured-? Does the day run from midnight to midnight, from 6 am to 6pm., or otherwise?

I've frequently seen the forecast of a "low" that is higher than the actual of that of the early morning.

it does run from midnight to midnight. However, most "low temps" are reached in the early am- around 5-6am. That is the Low for THAT day. For example, say it's 0001 on the 1st of July. you reach a low of 50 degrees at 0500 on the 1st of July. that is the LOW temperature for the 1st of July, not the 31st of June (even though it happens overnight between the 31st and the 1st, since the actual low was reached on the 1st then it is considered the low for the 1st) I know it is kind of confusing, took me awhile to get it.

The 'high' is the daytime high and the 'low' is the nighttime low.

Daytime is 6am to 6pm and nighttime from 6pm to 6am, hence the terms midday and midnight. It's a bit confusing as we don't tend to think of the middle of the day being at 12:00 or the middle of the night being at 00:00 - but that's where they are.

The day runs from midnight to midnight.

Keep in mind a forecast is in essence an educated guess. It won't always match exactly to what occurs.
