Should the people charged with plotting to kidnap a British soldier at home face the death penalty...?
I say yes.

I cant understand why our government had to get rid of the death penalty in 1998 for treason if nothing else it has been shown we need that to beat these people.Treason is making war on the Queen by her subjects - this would fit perfectly and would have made a great example to others. When you think about it this is an offence which could cause the death of thousands and yet it only carries life in one of H.M. hotels

One of the reasons that the death penalty was abolished in England was that quite a few people died who were innocent. If an appeal proves a persons innocence there is a chance to get on with their life, should they be found innocent after death what then? Also these people have not been found guilty yet, should that be the case depriving them of their liberty is far more effective than making them martyrs to the cause and encouraging others to follow. I am firmly of the belief that the prospect of hard labour is far more daunting than a blaze of publicity and creating "heroes". Fundamentalists thrive on publicity and our media should put a lid on exposure relegating these barbarians to dustbin they belong in.

I'm all for the death penalty, but intent to kidnap a soldier should warrant just a long jail term. If they killed the soldier I would happily say "string em up".

an unofficial survey conducted with serving convicted prisoners revealed that the majority (over 90 percent) were in favour of bringing back the death penalty. (most lifers abstained). It appears that only the politicians are against hanging. Why won't they give us a referendum?

if those kind of people don't get the death penalty, there is a good chance that others will kidnap planes, kill people, hold people at ransom etc in the demand that those people are set free. so i think its more safer for everyone if they are just killed. paedophiles should also get killed or tortured for everything they put the kids through. and rapists for that matter.

First, the UK would have to leave the EU, as the death penalty is not permitted within the EU. The pound would collapse, and interest rates would be forced up to double figures. Thousands of people would lose their houses as their mortgatges became unaffordable. Many would commit suicide.

But, go ahead if you're sure.

maybe , but we don;t have the death penalty on the statute books for that offence. You'd need to change the law and that would take a long time, even then you are hoping the majority would agree with you.

In this case, no, because they didn't actually kill anybody. However, they should be charged with treason at the highest level and incarcerated for a lifetime.

But your sentiment is accepted.
