I am a liberal who grew up near Dallas. My first memories of him are far different than my last memories of him. I want to know your opinions. I was priviledged to have to teacher who heard him speak in his early days in Haarlem. Malcom X is one of those Americans that you can not take a neutral stand on. You either like him or you dislike him. How do you vote?

Footnote? Denzel Washington character in a movie? Does it really matter? His own people "took him out." How messed up is that?

All I know is that I was a rural Idaho (where there aren't any black people except the ones imported to play on the college sports teams) boy in the Army in North Carolina in '92 when the movie came out. It really sucked because for several months afterward, every time I walked anywhere near a group of black guys, several of them invariably would be wearing "X" ball caps and glaring at me (the nearest 'white devil' at the moment) menacingly as if I personally had something to do with slavery and segregation and the ill treatment of the black race.

Thanks a lot, Malcolm X!
