Standard procedure is for the family or the publisher to find a ghost writer to finish the book. Since it's already done, this won't happen.

Many of Tolkien's books were published after his death and were edited or ghost written by his son, Christopher Tolkien. Frank Herbert's DUNE series has also been continued by family. Then there's the author of FLOWERS IN THE ATTIC. She did write that book, but the new books coming out under her name were written by other authors. The original writer died 20 years ago.

Kinda like Douglas Adams' Salmon of Doubt. I'd hire someone to edit and complete it (if I were a family member with the ability to make the choice). Me personally? I'd be very dissapointed, but quite frankly, I'm not that excited about book 7, because that will be the end. I just hope it makes up for book 6.

She has enough notes written that a ghost writer could finish it. Sure I'd be sad but it wouldn't be the end of the world. Anyway the book is finished and is being edited now.

I would cry for both Harry Potter and her. But she is already done the book so....even if she died, we still have it. But I feel selfish saying that. It would be very sad if she died.

Well, I suppose they would have had someone else to finish it, according to her notes and plans. It must be pretty much done by now anyway.
And I would do nothing, of course.

I guess they could only publish what she had finished and we could all guess what she was going to write. ( you have such a cruel mind in thinking such a horrible thought.)
