the high heat washing / drying *can* work but I would strongy suggest you do this with great ca\re and in stages (no boil washing here)

The reason is two fold - firstly, althought it might be a little loose around (for example) the collar, you might not wish the length of the sleeves to vanish by the same amount as you would like the collar to shrink. if you shrink, you tend to find that the garment shrings ALL OVER - not just where you think it is a little baggy.

Secondly, when material shrinks (what type by the way), it changes the quality and feel of the material - for example, if you do this with wool or silk you may well end up with something that not ony shrinks, but also looks damaged - permenet creases, "hangs wrong" etc etc.

If this is a really nice shirt, then either do this VERY carefull in stages - and ONLY use the hot water approach, hot drying a shirt made from a delicate material will ruin it - rather than shrink it perfectly!

Your other option, if only a "little too lose" is to have the shirt for days when you feel a little "bloated" or need to have a nice flowing shirt - as opposed to something constricting.

Your call though :)

Depends on the material, but in general if you wash and dry it in hot water it will shrink.

I agree with Mark, and with belts being in this season - just belt it and it will look great. If you don't like belts, try a fabric band, they have a lot of Asian-inspired ones out there.
