My worry is that I know i was fertile because Friday was 14 days b4 my next due period. Also friday afternoon i noticed a small mucus show with blood streaks(sorry to be blunt) when i went to the loo, my fear is that this oculd have been signs of implantation??? My stomach is still slightly tender? Surely 24 hours after sex would be too soon for conception to have taken place AND Implant.??? Any advice or suggestions welc ome thankyou!

the morning after pill can only work if taken upto 72 hours after unprotected sex, as you have gone over that time period may i suggest that you will have to wait to see if you miss a period, take pregnancy test and depending on the results look at your options.

Good luck.... Hope this helps.

The Morning after pill is very effective in the 1st 24 hours, and fairly effective in the 1st 72 hours. So Mon afternoon is slightly too late for the morning after pill. However, it's definitely still worth seeing your GP, since there is another method of emergency contraception (the IUD) which is effective up to 5 days afterwards. This is a small coil which is inserted into your uterus via the cervix - possibly some pain/discomfort, but better than an abortion. If possible, go to Accident & Emergency tonight - A&E can dispense the morning after pill (still effective if you go tonight) or the coil. Whatever you do, see someone as soon as possible, since emergency contraception is more effective the earlier you use it. But don't be discouraged from seeing someone - it's not too late.

UNPROTECTED SEX = PREGNANCY
Are all young people today stupid or don´t they get sex education anymore. Your GP won´t do you any good now because you need to take the pill 72 hours after you had unprotected sex.... If you are having sex, why aren´t you on the pill or injection !!!!!!!!

The morning-after pill

What is it?

Emergency contraception (also known as the morning-after pill) is a high dosage of the birth control pill. It is recommended to be used after sexual intercourse, over a period of 72 hours, to achieve the goal of preventing (or ending) pregnancy. There are three different ways birth control pills are currently being promoted for this use: progesterone alone, estrogen alone, or both of these artificial steroids together.

These are the same steroids found in the typical birth control pill.

Where did this idea come from?

The idea of emergency contraception—or a morning-after pill—is based on a theory. Under this theory, if a woman has sexual intercourse and fears she may be pregnant, she can take large doses of birth control pills. If in fact the woman is pregnant when she takes these birth control pills, the high dosage could act to kill her preborn child—a living human being. The only "emergency" in this case is the woman's fear of being pregnant.

There are at least two formulations of the birth control pill that are being marketed as "emergency contraceptives." Also, double doses (or more) of existing birth control pills are also prescribed (or self- administered) as "emergency contraception." Though no testing has been done to confirm the safety of these large doses of birth control pills for women (and very limited testing has been done on the specifically marketed "morning-after" pills), the Food and Drug Administration has approved this use.

How do emergency contraception/morning-after pills work?

The emergency contraceptive/morning-after pill has three possible ways in which it can work (as does the regular birth control pill):

1. Ovulation is inhibited, meaning the egg will not be released;
2. The normal menstrual cycle is altered, delaying ovulation; or
3. It can irritate the lining of the uterus so that if the first and second actions fail, and the woman does become pregnant, the human being created will die before he or she can actually attach to the lining of the uterus.

In other words, if the third action occurs, her body rejects the living human embryo, and the child will die. This result is a chemical abortion. (Abortion is an act of direct killing that takes the life of a living preborn human being—a life that begins at fertilization.)

Is it safe?

Here are some of the side effects:

* nausea
* vomiting
* infertility
* breast tenderness
* ectopic pregnancy (can be life threatening)
* blood clot formation

Emergency contraception also offers no protection against sexually transmitted diseases including AIDS.

There are no long term studies to show whether women will be permanently damaged, or risk such diseases as cancer, from these chemicals being given in such high doses.

I think your panicking. Implantation occurs approx 5-6 days after contraception so i highly doubt what u had on friday was a result of that. could have just been the way u had sex(it hapns). The morning after pill i know only is effective up2 72hours after unprotected sex. so 2day really would be the last day you could get it, although its effectiveness would not be high. I advise getting it 2day, its better to take it than not. you can get it from a chemist or hospital in an emergency. (make your bf pay for it if u get it from the chemist btw!)

if you don't take it, chances are u prob wont get pregnant, some ppl try for ages and it dosnt happen, then some who arent trying it happens to. Just hope its not you! do you best to take that pill today! and asap since u did it thursday morning!

goodluckxx

the element that bothers me approximately putting the morning after pill on cabinets for each guy or woman to purchase is they'd pass the section approximately being checked via a doctor, and would desire to no longer discover out they now have an STD or another difficulty they by no ability theory approximately. they simply very truly pop the pill, and prerequisites that would desire to have been treatable early on get away interest till that is too late. And interior the article, it mentions that somebody became actual naive sufficient to think of an 11-twelve months-previous won't purchase some thing that expenses $50 in a drug save: ["i do no longer think of 11-twelve months-olds circulate into ceremony help and purchase something," much less a single pill that expenses approximately $50, further fellow AAP member Dr. Cora Breuner, a professor of pediatric and adolescent medicine on the college of Washington.] That fact, from a meant "expert," is the main ludicrous element I actual have seen all week.

from personal experience yes monday will be too late no matter what they say about 72 hours.
my sis had sex using a condom which broke and didint find out until later.this was late fri night.thought monday would be ok to get morning after pill.took it. got pregnant anyway from that fri night, had two kids from a broken marriage, was having first relationship following that, didnt want any more children as a single parent, and had to have an op which she hates herself for to this day and would never ever wait so long again if found herself in that position but as knew her new partner was moving abroad and didnt want to be single mum of three kids by two dads she had to do it.
so use contraception all the bloody time!!!
if you and b/f are regular and committed, then get a safe and effective contraception, best to use condoms and the mini pill at same time.
good luck.
get to a chemist NOW and take the morning after pill no matter what it costs. when you are both tthinking clearly about serious committement and babies. then throw caution to the winds!!!

As far as im aware, it is too late but you should really ask a medical professional rather than people on here.

Just a question, if you knew you were fertile but didnt want to have a baby , why did you have unprotected sex?

If you find condoms uncomfortable or other forms of contraceptives , why not think of a different mode of protection instead of using the emergency pill as a form of contraception?

morning after pill works upto 72hours after sex. but the longer you leave it the less efficient it is

i.e. 24 hours after - 95% effectiveness
48 hours after - 85% effectiveness
72 hours after - 75% effectiveness

but for almost perfect results it should be taken in 12 hours

monday will be too late!!!! you should have taken it this morning AT THE VERY LATEST

go see your doctor for a pregnancy test or if your very worried go to your pharmacy and get a early detection pregnancy test

however there is not point worrying about it until you're sure

Monday is too late for Plan B or other morning after pills, well actually in some countries they say up to 5 days but it doesn't work as well and doesn't work that well to start with BUT...

5 days is NOT too late to have an IUD put in as emergency contraception AND it is 99% effective.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intrauterine_device#Use_as_emergency_contraception
Use as emergency contraception
Intrauterine devices can be used as emergency contraception to prevent pregnancy up to 5 days after unprotected sexual intercourse, or sexual intercourse during which the primary contraception is believed to have failed (e.g. a condom was used, but it broke). Insertion of a copper-T IUD as emergency contraception is more than 99% effective, making it more effective than emergency contraceptive pills (ECP or 'morning-after pill').

You can take the morning after pill up to 72 hours after unprotected sex. You can however have the coil fitted upto a week afterwards. It can either be removed after 1month or can be kept as contraception for up to 5 years.
