The phrase "ice breaker" means taken action that breaks the tension before starting communication with another or other people. It can be as simple as saying "hi" to someone to start a conversation.

Good Luck!!!

It's an activity used as a means to get past the beginning, awkward phase of getting to know people. Like a clever line or a game.

I think it comes from ships in arctic water they use an ice breaker to break up ice so they can continue on their way. I always pictured it something like a snow plow in front but I really never knew what it looked like or how it worked.

"Ice breakers are little activities and games designed to help people get to know and feel comfortable around one another. Some are silly, others are a little embarrassing, and others are merely informative in a light-hearted way. If chosen correctly, ice breakers can be a very powerful tool that facilitates the success of your group, meeting or party." By : Donna Pilato,
