Does anyone agree with me that the Stones do an awful lot of 'country' music? My partner is a mad Stones fan and will not talk to me because I said this. He said what they do is Blues but I don't care - I go by my ears and what I hear an awful lot of in their music is Country. Anyone agree?

To Ourkidz........I'm not a Stones fan but have had to listen to them over the years when he plays them. I can't go into titles with you but here's one example: "If you need me". Isn't that an old one and isn't it as country as they come?

Yes they do a lot of 'country' style music, although they would probably call it something else. I noticed this many years ago.

I've got to go with your partner on this one. The Stones did a lot of blues in the early days.

Originally The Stones were pure rock, then rock and blues, then rock and blues with a bit of country in. The fact that they are so versatile is why they have appealed to such a wide audience for such a long time.

Not really. Country music has evolved in the past 10 or 15 years and sounds more like your classic southern rock usually. Like Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Eagles, Molly Hatchet, Bob Segar and the list goes on.But it is usually with a southern accent. It is country that has changed - not the rock. Martina McBride sings like Celine Dion and doesn't have a country accent and neither does Shania Twain - she sounds like pop.
The Rolling Stones were Rock & Roll; and I know it's only rock & roll cause I like it, like it, yes I do!

well it depends on what you are calling "country" music...
todays country music has taken a strong blues sound..the stones music has had this sound..well except for richards guitar and his trademark tuning..anyway..i would say they have"meshed" if yoou are using todays country artist and todays stones sound.dont go comparing stuff from 15 years ago and beyond because they are different...sympathy for the devil one of my favs..has no country effects or the goats head soup cd either.. just my opinions..

They are getting old and can't play hard stuff no more. They play music that is less technical, more common... to a point that it sounds like... country. 'cause country is easy to play.
