I'm trying to change my major to becoming a counselor. Is there an Elementary school counselor? If there is one, is it hard to find a job in that field?

Every elementary school that I know of in my district has an elem. counselor position. My current school even has 2 for the number of students we have. They are required by state laws to see each class for an hour a month (I think) and they meet with children one-on-one as well. Some are great and some are just not worth their salt!

Good luck, kiddos these days need more counseling as the difficulties of life affect them more and more.

Yes. School social worker, school psychologist, school counselor. Within the next 3 years, there will be many vacancies in education, as teachers continue to retire. You could do a job search on Yahoo jobs or any major newspaper to get an idea. Some schools are starting to look for teachers for next year already!

There are not many counselor jobs in elementary schools as there are for middle schools and high schools, however they do exist - you just have to look hard for them to find opennings in that field.

Good Luck!!!
