The only thing that I can add to what the others have already mentioned is that 2 CPUs or 4 CPUs does not mean that the processor runs faster by 2 or 4.
It does run faster, but only if the program you are running is suitable to being optimized over 2 or 4 processors.
I have never used a quadcore so cant comment, but I can assure you that 2 core is not twice as fast as I keep hearing other people claim them to be.
Beyond a level, you should not worry abt quadcore or octal core or whatever. Most conventional software cant handle that kind of optimizations at all

Dual core means that the Central Processor has two CPUs and quad means four CPUs.

dual core is almost like having 2 separate processors on one chip. quad core is the same but with four. most of the new chips from intel and AMD are like that.

dual core comes in two version the one is core 2 duo. they have both two processing unit in one processor the differrent with core 2 duo is use 64bit in processing while the other use only 32bit. quad core have four cores or four processing unit.
